Women's Rights March

This past weekend was certainly one for the books. Two of my best friends and I (Edie on the left and Dom on the right) traveled up to Washington D.C to march in the Women's Rights March held in the capitol on the 21st. We left Friday and stayed that night with family of mine, who live right outside of D.C . We then left Saturday morning to catch the metro and head into the city to meet hundreds of thousands people who would also be marching for equality. I hope you enjoy these photos. I'm so glad I was able to not only be a part of history but to capture it as well.

Traveling on the metro was pretty cool, I've only been on the metro a few times in my life and this time was extra special because even though we were all squished together like sardines, everyone on that metro was there for the same cause. The energy was incredible and a few chants were even started. Including a "repeat after me chant" that Dom started, saying "Fired Up. Ready To Go" and then one where we all yelled "No More Passengers" every time we got to a new station, because we were at capacity on the metro (which was an amazing problem to have)!!!!

For safety reason people at the march were supposed to have clear bags to keep their stuff in. So Dom and I, with the help of my family we were staying with, made these awesome clear cross body bags with a little duct tape, some rope and a storage bag. They helped store a few snacks and some water which were much needed throughout the march.

"Y'all Means All". I saw quite of few of these signs and they made me chuckle each time.

I say this all the time but I believe Hillary Clinton's quote "Women's Rights are Human Rights" sums it up.

I think these hats were an awesome idea and it was amazing seeing SO many people wearing them throughout the march. Throughout this post you will see a variety of pussy hats, some knitted and some not. I especially loved seeing the men who wore these hats because it pushed the point they as males, were not afraid to show they wanted to be allies with women.

A personal favorite sign of mine. Growing up I was always bothered by the saying "You run/throw/fight/kick like a girl". What is that saying supposed to mean? That it was bad if a girls couldn't achieve similar successes in athletics as guys? That if guys threw like a girl it was negative? Mia Hamm has an amazing quote that stuck in my head all day, “My coach said I ran like a girl, I said if he could run a little faster he could too”. Little girls in sports and in life, should not be afraid to be strong and powerful.

Not only were right sfor women being fought for but so were the rights of those in the LGBTQ+ community. Along with rights for minorities, immigrants, and muslims. It was amazing seeing everyone from all different walks of life supporting each other!

If you haven't educated yourself on the controversy of Betsy DeVos being Secretary of Education, please do.

These two women here are some of the strongest and most passionate females I know. I am a better person because of them and I am so glad I could experience this weekend with them by my side.

Because way more people than expected showed up to the march, the actual march was delayed by a while and at one point everyone started yelling "March, March, March, March!" Including this police officer who I'm going to assume not only supported the march but wanted everyone to start moving out of his area!

^^^ The pantsuit sign was another personal favorite of mine!

^Every so often a giant Trump balloon would fly through the crowd and people would punch it back up into the air.

A few girls made these felt pins and were passing them out to people as they walked by. There were all different shapes and colors and I'm so glad I have one to remember this amazing day by.
